Gallery Door Art

Meadowlark Gallery features "evolving door"

Passersby and patrons of Meadowlark Gallery in Grant have no doubt noticed a new look on the entrance of the building on 246 Central Ave. The gallery is now sporting an “evolving door,” to be redecorated monthly.

The first in the series is an abstract pattern in brown and black, created by arts council member and project coordinator, DeeAnn Tatum.

All budding Michelangelos are invited to give the gallery their own personal stamp to grace the entrance for a month. Their creation will then take a more permanent spot in the gallery’s history when it is photographed and archived right here on the arts council’s website.

Anyone interested in decorating the gallery door can leave a message on the site's webmail, or contact DeeAnn Tatum.

By the way, the gallery door is open every Friday and Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m. for the public to enjoy original creations from their southwest Nebraska friends and neighbors.

August’s door debut was created by DeeAnn Tatum, active Perkins County Area Arts Council member, gallery and studio director at Meadowlark Gallery. Her large-scale abstract paintings, created in the studio at the gallery, have yielded several awards in southwest Nebraska and eastern Colorado art shows.
The gallery door was painted in September 2009 by Molly Hutchinson, a newcomer to Grant. Molly was raised in neighboring Ogallala, where she graduated from high school. She has spent time in Nashville launching a singing career, and returned to southwest Nebraska in summer of 2009 to open an automobile repair business, Ride Rite Garage, in Grant with James Deaver.
In December 2009 the entrance was painted by DeeAnn Tatum, gallery director at Meadowlark Gallery.
March 2010 painted by Alecia and Shari Friedel, assisted by Claire Friedel and Kayla Woodmancy. Shari is an arts council member and employee at the Grant Tribune-Sentinel. Alecia is a senior at Perkins County High School. Claire and Kayla are seventh graders at Perkins County Middle School.
The May door was painted by nine-year-old Ashley Marie Becker. Art is one of her favorite classes at Perkins County Elementary School in Grant where she will be in fourth grade in fall 2010. She loves to paint, and she decorated the gallery door in honor of her mom, Kelly Brewster Palmer, for Mother’s Day.
